Concrete Decks

Reinforced concrete decks have become increasingly popular with homeowners. That’s because they require very little maintenance, compared to wood decks. In fact, the concrete blocks that are used to construct the decks are virtually maintenance-free, only needing an occasional washing down with a regular garden hose.

Concrete Decks Advantages

There are many advantages of using concrete as opposed to other materials commonly used in deck construction.

  • Durability. Concrete is extremely strong and rigid. It can withstand more weight and abuse than other materials. The concrete is further reinforced by steel joists built into the concrete.
  • Flexibility. Concrete deck surfaces can be designed according to the homeowner’s preferences. They can be one large slab, blocks, or with engraved designs stamped on them. The concrete deck comes with optional glass or metal railings and lighting packages that add ambiance to your deck.
  • Eco-Friendly. Because of the long-lasting features of concrete, there will be no need to replace it any time soon. Unlike wood decks, which can warp and rot and need replacing, there is no need for cutting down more trees.
  • Aesthetics. The appearance of a concrete deck will stay attractive and appealing for many years. Its clean look lends to the aesthetics of the home and landscaping. Wood decks become faded and splintered, detracting from the home’s curb appeal.
  • Low Maintenance. Concrete decks require minimal maintenance. A quick rinse with your garden hose can remove dust and debris and leave it looking like new again. The solid concrete surface also prevents grass and weeds from sprouting in between the pavers compared to other decking materials.
  • Value. Concrete decks or patios are less expensive than using other materials. Also, the money you’ll save from its long-lasting beauty, durability, and low maintenance qualities will benefit you in the long term.
  • Safety. Concrete decks are non-flammable, so there is no risk of fire caused by heat or cooking. They are not attached to the home, so you can easily add an outdoor kitchen on it without worrying about dangerous sparks and flames igniting your house.
  • Versatility. The concrete deck is waterproof underneath. That means you can use it around a pool or anywhere in the yard with no risk of water accumulating and causing damage.
